Exploring the Depths of the Great Lakes with “All Too Clear”

On April 19th, 2024 we joined our Great Lakes Plastic Cleanup partner, Big Canoe Project, for their annual event in Meaford, Ontario, featuring Yvonne Drebert & Zach Melnick, filmmakers behind the upcoming documentary “All Too Clear: Beneath the Surface of the Great Lakes”. Pollution Probe took part in the eco fair and had an opportunity to speak with other community groups and attendees about plastic pollution and our work in Lake Huron through the Great Lakes Plastic Cleanup.

Last Summer, Yvonne Drebert and Zach Melnick made national headlines when they discovered the wreck of the Africa at the bottom of Lake Huron. Ironically, this discovery would help to shape the focus of their upcoming documentary. The shipwreck was completely covered in Quagga mussels, and using an innovative new camera, the documentarians were able to film the impact this invasive species is having on local whitefish populations for the first time.
